Boston Buildup 10K | 1/3/2010 | Norwalk, CT | 0:39:09 | 25 | Very cold & windy - wind chill near zero. Sign-up for the race was done outside as
the school was locked up and the person who was supposed to open it didn't
show up. First race coming back from bursitis injury. It was pretty much pain free, but the conditioning isn't all there yet. m1 - 6:03, m2 - 6;24, m3 - 5:54, m4 - 6:05, m5 - 6:45, (m6.2) - 7:58 |

Roxbury Race Series - Up Chalybes (2.4 miles) | 2/20/2010 | Roxbury, CT | 0:14:53 | 2 | nice day, 34°F, not too windy. I
started out fast, in the lead - for a while - the first mile plus… But at the bottom of the steep part of
Chalybes it was time to pay the
piper. Jeff S. powered up the hill,
and I trudged up it. I managed to stay
in second place, as I recovered some speed after the hill. // M1 - 5:57, M2 - 6:35, (M2.4) - 2:21 |

Boston Buildup 25K | 2/28/2010 | Norwalk, CT | 1:43:55 | Right around 32°F, no wind.
Roads were clear from previous few days of rain and snow. I started out doing about 6:30 per mile,
but after 6 miles, it was a struggle just to keep going, and I progressively
fell back and was passed several times.
It was very hilly. // M1 - 6:26, M2 - 6:30, M3 - 6:31, M4 - 6:11, M5 - 6:38, M6 - 6:59, M7 - 6:41, M8 - 6:59, M9 - 6:53, M10 - 6:43, M11 - 6:35, M12 - 7:02, M13 - 6:47, M14 - 6:58, M15 - 6:44, (M15.5) - 3:18 |

6:31, M7 - 6:07, M8 - 6:34, M9 - 6:39, M10 - 6:52, M11 - 6:29, Miles 12 &
13 - 12:12, (13.1) - 0:42 // Target was under 1:21, around 6:10 avg pace. So the first mile was good. Second mile was a little slow - maybe it was the wind coming up Memorial Drive the second time. Miles 3, 4, 5: Perfect! And I was feeling pretty good. Mile 6: the hill was kind of sneaky this time. I pretty much knew at this point I would not break 1:21 - I couldn't get a split like 6:31 until the hills after mile 8. Mile 7, I bore down on the guys ahead of me. But by mile 8, (no hills) I had to ease up again. Miles 9 and 10, I expected to slow down a lot, and I did! Mile 11, which was a lot of down hill, was also slow, though... Mile 12 marker was wildly off - long, but at that point in the race - it hardly matters - you're going pretty much all out by then. |

In the 2009 race (1:21:06),
at the Mile 8 water stop, I had the meaningless victorious moment of tossing
my water cup into the garbage box, on the run, to the cheers of the
volunteers there. This year, I missed!
Which just shows I'm not all the way back...
but close. I came in a couple minutes slower than last year, and some runners who I have been competing with came in ahead of me, but I did beat a couple runners who I have never beat before, and I was able to finish fairly strong. |
